Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate the opening day of our pumpkin patch on Saturday, the 3rd of October!
This is the first time a pumpkin patch has happened at Blueberry Hill Farm and I consider it to be a great success. Many farm visitors expressed excitement about the pumpkin patch throughout the summer, and some of them even made repeat visits just to check on how quickly it was growing.
In the beginning the patch looked like a bunch of optimistic straw. As the weeks passed, repeat visitors confirmed that the pumpkin plants were growing so quickly that they suspected supernatural forces were at work. Or at least some powerful chicken manure.

As the pumpkins grew larger and October grew nearer I decided to throw a party for the pumpkin patch and celebrate its debut with the Blueberry Hill Farm community that has developed throughout the season. On opening day a steady stream of folks came by the farm to pick a lot of pumpkins, eat delicious food from Skarff food truck, and enjoy the beautiful sunny weather.
Pumpkin painting

Even more popular than picking pumpkins was painting pumpkins. My very talented friend Kim led pumpkin painting for a couple hours at a picnic table outside. So many people wanted to paint their pumpkins that we had to add a second picnic table.
I added my secret stash of googly eyes to the table and the design wackiness seemed to go up a notch. Two hours of pumpkin painting was definitely not enough. Next year we’ll make sure to have pumpkin painting all day and even more art supplies!
